Sibling Rivalry

Funny runs through the blood of the Sedaris family like corny flows through the Osmonds. Through the immensely popular works by David Sedaris, many of us are aware of the antics of the family, as their dirty laundry has been aired time and time again in Sedaris' short stories, essays and radio appearances. When Amy Sedaris popped up as a star in her own right, many readers felt like we'd known her for years. Amy made cameos in her brother's stories as an inane, quirky pixie and starred in the bizarre cult hit Strangers With Candy, and she recently wrote the cracked-out cookbook I Like You. Either one of these Sedaris siblings has the power to make you ROFL, but taken together, the pair are a no-holds-barred comedy dream team. Much to the joy of their fans, David and Amy have written a play that sends up and skewers American clichés and popular culture with the delightful satire that the two are known for. The Book of Liz tells the story of a woman who leaves her closed-off life as a cheeseball maker in a religious sect to experience life in the real world. Theatre Arlington takes on the critically lauded satire as it runs through May 25 on the Allen Saxe stage, 305 W.
