Sinking Song

When it comes to movies, everybody loves a nice period piece once in a while, especially if it's loosely based on a true story and involves a sinking ship. Seriously, Titanic is still the top-grossing film of all time, worldwide, and it's been 10 years since the film first hit theaters. It's hard to believe, I know, because in the past decade we've seen some major motion pictures of unbelievable quality (Cheaper By the Dozen 2, anyone?). Yet Titanic's reign continues. I think the only thing that could have made the film a bigger success were if it had several scenes where the characters broke into song. "King of the World!" could have been a top-10 hit on the Billboard charts, and you know it. And while it may be too late for the big screen, the Cedar Valley College theater department, Family Music Theatre, is presenting Titanic, the Musical at the CVC Performance Hall, 3030 N. Dallas Ave., in Lancaster. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings and 1:30 p.m. Saturdays, this weekend and June 29 and 30. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids and can be purchased in advance by calling 972-860-2994. For more information, call 972-860-7444, ext. 9302.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 1:30 p.m. Starts: June 22. Continues through June 30
