Slaying It Old School
It’s a little known fact that before cellphones, vampire slayers relied on pagers. When the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer faced Lothos, she couldn’t text anyone “Help!” with an emoji of a demon. She fought solo. This female independence earned her a huge fan base. What eventually became the quirky hit TV series in the late ’90s started as a movie in 1992, which starred the neon-clad Kristy Swanson as the original chosen one and Donald Sutherland as her wise Watcher. Joss Whedon’s original hit about a teenage girl destined to battle demons, werewolves and vampire comes to life this Thursday and then again on Sunday when Denton’s Movie Tavern (916 W. University Drive) screens the campy classic at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $7 or $5 for students, seniors and children.
Sun., Feb. 9, 7:30 p.m., 2014
