A district attorney in Wisconsin has threatened to prosecute teachers who follow a new state law that bans abstinence-only sex education and requires sex-education classes to provide age-appropriate information. That's not exactly surprising coming from a people who call themselves cheeseheads, but then, Texans have nothing to brag about when it comes to sex-ed. Want to change that? Check out "Break the Silence: Speak Up for Sex Ed," this Saturday at Cathedral of Hope, 5910 Cedar Springs Road. The event is open to youths ages 15 to 24, though it will focus on LGBT young folk. Its aim is to promote tolerance, drum up advocacy for comprehensive sex education and inform about the failures of abstinence-only programs. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It's free, but space is limited, so register at tfn.org/speakup.
