Stretch First, Then Sprint to Art
Don’t sweat that there are three must-see gallery openings this weekend — it’s a marathon, not a foot race, after all. In the Design District, pop into Craighead Green for New Texas Talent XIX, an annual juried show promoting emerging visual artists, judged this year by Lollie Tompkins, Visual Arts Coordinator at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Eschewing a traditional reception, guests are invited to come in for the opening reception 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. Saturday, with many of the artists on hand between 5 and 8 at 1011 Dragon St. And, while you’re at it, stroll a few doors down to 1107 Dragon St., where Cohn Drennan Contemporary presents Blurr, featuring established Dallas artist Bonny Leibowitz and emerging UNT graduate student Ben Terry, whose dissimilar media and techniques present converging ideas of life in transition, with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Finally, head across town to 2722 Logan St. for Chiaroscuro by Drew Merritt, featuring “classic subjects in a contemporary setting,” at WAAS Gallery, with an opening reception from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
