Stroke, Steel and Starr

Art appreciation is about more than just quietly enjoying the classics. As the world changes, so does the art of the times, and there's no better way to get a look at the past, present and future than by checking out what (and why) art is created today. Take, for example, the works of the three exhibitions on display at Conduit Gallery (1626 C Hi Line Drive). Blessed with all the Thunder in the World features paintings by Michael Tole that explore mood and time using contemporary and historic painting conventions, while Ted Larsen's sculptural works in Past is Prologue examine space and illusion using salvaged steel and other metal byproducts. Rounding out this month's group of works is Alison Starr's exhibition entitled HD-LD PE (hi-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene), a collection of humorous and endearing miniatures created out of reworked post-consumer materials. The three exhibitions run through May 14 at Conduit Gallery. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Call 214-939-0064 or visit
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: April 2. Continues through May 14, 2011
