The Dallas CityArts Festival is a noble endeavor indeed, aiming to showcase "the incredible cultural, performing, visul and culinary arts of Dallas and the region." Note that they don't say anything about being current, however, which explains why they snagged The Reverend Horton Heat to headline the first night of the shindig's music. But we digress. There are still plenty of reasons to check out this weekend's festival, including a juried art show, food and wine tastings (courtesy chefs from some of Dallas' swankiest restaurants, including Scene, Fuse and others with more traditional, multi-word names) a plethora of dance (from the likes of Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Grupo Folklorico Mexico Lindo and many more) and performances by several modern soul artists who sound not-so-promising but nevertheless have cool names, like Peter Hadar & the Cool Weirdos and Yahzarach, AKA Purple St. James. Eat your heart out, Rev. The Dallas CityArts Festival takes place from 6 to to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Downtown Arts District. For free.
