We were on a high school choir trip in Austin once where the entertainment consisted of pulling the bus up to the multiplex and letting 60 teenagers run wild for a couple hours. Unfortunately, our girlfriend at the time wanted to see the Meg Ryan/Matthew Broderick vehicle Addicted to Love, while the rest of our nerdy friends went to see The Lost World: Jurassic Park and five cool, arty seniors went to watch Luc Besson's The Fifth Element. Can you guess which group was the most satisfied when we got back to the bus? Not only was The Fifth Element the winner of that spring night in 1997, it just might be the best sci-fi film of the '90s. Whether it's Besson's 23rd century eye candy or the maniacally fun performances of Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker and Gary Oldman (or Milla Jovovich's latex band-aid get-up, for that matter), it's sure to be a crowd pleaser when it screens midnight Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 West Lovers Lane. Tickets are $10. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
