Surrender, Fort Worth

Break out the cigarette lighter--Cheap Trick is in town. The '70s power-pop group is the poor man's Rolling Stones: Both have been touring, like, forever. Cheap Trick has released more albums and compilations than Phil Spector has wigs, and guested on soundtracks from Top Gun to Transformers. The band's bread and butter is the late '80s power ballad "The Flame" and the immediately recognizable "I Want You to Want Me," which is playing on at least one classic rock station somewhere at any given time. It's a rule. One must respect that Cheap Trick has kept the act going for 40 years. As guitarist Rick Nielsen put it on Austin City Limits, "Gee, we're Cheap Trick, we can do anything. What do you need? Want your lawn worked on? We can do it all." Well, Rick, now that you mention it, the lawn mower is in the garage. Cheap Trick will rock your pants off Friday night at Billy Bob's Texas, 2520 Rodeo Plaza in Fort Worth. The concert begins at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission or $35 for a reserved seat.
