Attention Yankee transplants, snowbirds, corporate carpetbaggers and assorted other Texas immigrants: Do your adopted state a favor and go check out the free concert by the Quebe Sisters Band at 8 p.m. at Klyde Warren Park. Hulda, Grace and Sophia, the fiddle-playing, three-part harmonizing trio from Denton, have won awards and praise from the likes of Ricky Skaggs and Marty Stuart for their takes on old school western swing and jazz. So, the music's damn good, but even better for Texas newcomers is the chance to become acquainted with the work of Mr. Bob Wills, the late great king of Texas swing and one of the sisters' muses. The Lone Star state is getting filled up with people who've never heard of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys or western swing, the official state music as declared by the Legislature. And that's a shame, because if Texas ever forgets about Bob Wills, it will be a lot less Texas — not so much a whole other country, but just another state. Let the Quebe Sisters show you why, whatever you think of Texas politics, forgetting its culture would be a tragedy.
