T3 Does The Queen's Wave
Given that we fought a war a couple hundred years ago to free ourselves from the rule of a monarch, we as a nation will let just about anyone take on a "royal" title. We had the Prince of Pop, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, and everyone's favorite chameleon, Queen Latifah. So if we were ever going to have a royal family, they'd definitely have to be entertainers, and no one's more entertaining than the Barrymores. At least that's what the brilliant George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber thought when they penned 1927's The Royal Family. A comedy "loosely" based on the famous stage and screen family, The Royal Family was recently revived by Steppenwolf Theatre, and is now making its local debut at Theatre Three in the Quadrangle (2800 Routh St.). Since everyone loves to point and laugh at the drama queens, the womanizing alcoholics, and the overall dysfunctional lives of the rich and the beautiful, now's the time to see it in its glory day at opening night of The Royal Family, starting at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The play runs through Sunday, August 30, with regularly scheduled performances Thursdays through Sundays. Tickets are $10 to $40. Call 214-871-3300 or visit theatre3dallas.com.
Mon., Aug. 3, 7:30 p.m.; Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 3. Continues through Aug. 30, 2009
