Tale As Old As Time
If I have to turn in my man card to admit that I really like Disney's Beauty and the Beast, then so be it. That movie is the shit when it comes to chipper songs, sweet romance and high drama. Plus, along with The Little Mermaid, it marked Disney's official return to animated movie fairy tales. The film grossed some $347 million worldwide and is the first (and so far only) animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. So how does Disney milk it for even more? A Broadway musical could do the trickâ⬔especially one that pulled in some $1.5 billion. Ka-ching! No wonder the Creative Arts and Theater School (CATS) is staging the show as a fund-raiser. It's a proven hit. I'm just hoping for a better showing than the mediocre production the Denton Community Theater put on last year. YouTube that and you'll see what I mean. But I have full faith in the kiddos at CATS. They're old pros at this stuff. Disney's Beauty and the Beast fund-raiser show runs Friday through May 11 at CATS, 110 W. Randol Mill Road in Arlington. Tickets are $15; $10 for kids. Call 817-861-2287 or visit creativearts.org.
Fridays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2:30 & 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: May 2. Continues through May 4, 2008
