The Aurora Dallealas
When night falls on the Dallas Arts District tonight, expect the whole area to come to life, like when forests of mushrooms crop up after a rainstorm. The Aurora Project, presented by The Dallas Morning News, is a massive open-air exhibition that allows artists to turn the nearly 70-acre district into a collection of glowing art pieces. This year Aurora is featuring dozens of artists with projects scattered throughout the area, so be prepared to walk around and bring a spirit of exploration. Light installations, plays, video canvases and printed sculptures will take over from 6 p.m. to midnight. Obvious venues like the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Klyde Warren Park and the Winspear Opera House are participating, but also more surprising spots, like the Omni Hotel and the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Aurora 2013 is all about accessible public art so understandably it’s free to attend. Visit auroradallas.com for more information and a full schedule of events.
