The Call of Chihuly
Maybe someday you, too, will have a six-month celebration of your life’s work as you rock an eye patch like whoa, but while you work out your five-year plan to attain Chihuly-level lionization, be sure to check out the nationally renowned, award-winning artist’s local pit stop at the Dallas Arboretum between May 5 and November 5. Swirling, twirling, vibrant glass Chihuly monsters (no, not Cthulhu) invade this summer and early fall in more than 15 locations throughout the lush 66 acres, on view during the Arboretum’s normal daytime hours. But, things really get amped up after dark for special “Chihuly Nights,” programs from 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays each week. Illuminated with special-effects lighting, Chihuly’s sculptures ignite, flanked with dining options and (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) “Concerts at the Arboretum” to enhance the family-friendly revelry. Tickets range from $9 to $20 depending on age and membership discounts, and while there is no charge for parking, guests will need to select a lot online before arrival. The Arboretum is at 8525 Garland Road, and you can call 214-515-6500 or visit dallasarboretum.org to purchase tickets in advance and glean more details.
