The Corny Girls

Fogy that I am, the first time I heard of the Cheetah Girls was this summer from my 12-year-old cousin, who in August began planning her Halloween costume as one of the girl stars. The only problem was that her fourth "best friend" felt left out, since there are only three Cheetah Girls to emulate—the perfect drama to kick off the school year. The pop R&B band was created by Disney for a product extravaganza that has included movies, a television series and a clothing line, but apparently the girls want to expand their audience from Bop Magazine and CosmoGIRL! readers to older pop fans. Of their coming album, Cheetah Girl Adrienne Bailon says, "We'll be making a real album, not a soundtrack—it's important for people to see us as a real musical group." Perhaps, but it'll take more than removing The Fox and the Hound 2 ads from their Web site, given these 2006 lyrics: "Amigas, Cheetahs, friends for life/The rhythm and each other/That’s what keeps us tight." The Cheetah Girls play the Nokia Theatre at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Call 214-373-8000 or visit
Wed., Jan. 3, 7 p.m.
