The 'Doon Looms Ahead
I've always wanted to go to the highlands of Scotland, but on those days when I find myself trapped at work and staring down a very blank computer screen, I start wishing a place like Brigadoon really did exist. In the classic musical Brigadoon, the eponymous Scottish village has been enchanted and only appears once every 100 years. When it does show up, though, there are good times to be had with the singing and the dancing and the men in kilts. Gotta love a man in a kilt. If you're looking for a little musical escapism it's hard to get better than the story of a New Yorker who finds the village, meets a girl, falls in love and then...well, this is a 1940s musical, so odds are there'll be a happy ending. The Gene Kelly movie version is pretty good, but nothing beats the real, live stage version. The Artisan Center Theater, 420 E. Pipeline Road, offers up Brigadoon through April 10. Tickets are $7 for 12 and under, $12 for 13 up, $16 for adults. Call 817-284-1200 or visit artisanct.com for information.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 3 p.m. Starts: March 12. Continues through April 10, 2010
