The Modern Age

While it's fair to say that Europe is the cornerstone of art and its history, we aren't doing too bad ourselves. Sure, we may not have Grecian urns or baroque tapestries dating back thousands of years but damn it, our dead artists can hold their own against any da Vinci or Monet. Just don't tell my art professor I said that. With a title like Coming of Age: American Art, 1850s to 1950s, it might be easy to infer the featured artists aren't making many brush strokes, but an impressive roster including Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Winslow Homer and James Whistler make this a must-see for detailing this formative century of American art. Bring it on, you neoclassicists. The exhibit opens Friday at the Meadows Museum, 5900 Bishop Blvd., and runs through February 2008. For more information, call 214-768-1138 or visit
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 30. Continues through Feb. 24, 2007
