There Goes the Neighborhood
It’s summer time and the livin’ is sleazy. Embracing the smut is the best way to escape the heat, and there’s no better way to celebrate smuttiness than with pornography, foot-fetishism and the one and only Divine. At 9:30 p.m. Friday, Texas Theatre (213 W. Jefferson Blvd.) is screening John Waters’ Polyester, featuring the legendary drag queen as the door-smashing Francine Fishpaw, whose suburban life is steadily consumed by her family’s depravity. In case Texas Theater wasn’t campy enough already, the screening will be followed by a John Waters costume party, with music by DJ Wild in the Streets. So brush off your best Johnny Depp and Kathleen Turner impersonations and be sure to bring along bingo cards with squares marked for bouffants and pencil mustaches.
