They Might Be Giants
Some moviegoers might consider themselves especially dedicated if they know the release date of a flick a few months in advance, but to be a real snob they'll have to go further. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is giving a sneak peek of this year's upcoming greats with their annual film fest, Great Movies You Haven't Heard of ... Yet. DFW.com film critic Christopher Kelly has selected a handful of festival favorites for this week-long tour of up-and-coming instant classics. The festival includes movies that will see national release, such as 50/50 with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, as well as those for niche audiences, like Gereon Wetzel's El Bulli: Cooking in Progress, a documentary about the world famous restaurant closing its doors. The event even includes a "secret screening" of a film whose title is kept under wraps until right before the debut, though the Modern assures us that it's "one of the fall's most anticipated new dramas." The festival also offers more than your typical movie watcher's fare of hot dogs and popcorn thanks to Café Modern, which will be opening early and closing late for the event. Great Movies You Haven't Heard of ... Yet runs through Sunday. Times and ticket prices vary. Call 817-738-9215 or visit themodern.org for more details.
