You can’t escape it. On walks, at the dog park, in the pet store, everybody wants to know: “What kind of dog is that?” and the answer is never just “The kind that loves me.” Tell somebody you’ve got a retriever or pug mix and your pup is showered with pats on the head and ear rubs. Tell ’em you have a pit bull, though, and the conversation comes screeching to a halt. Owners of pit bulls will tell you their dog is just as sweet, loyal and goofy as any other breed. Rock-A-Bully 2 aims to change minds about the pit bull: Sunday’s benefit at Sue Ellen’s (3014 Throckmorton St.) runs from 1 until 7 p.m., and features Shorty Rossi, star of Animal Planet’s Pit Boss, and his pit ambassador Hercules as part of their efforts to raise awareness about the breed. Get a new perspective on these dogs from rescue groups including Dog Star Pit Bull Rescue, Animal Rescue of Texas and DFW Rescue Me, all of whom benefit from the event. Try your luck at a raffle that could land you premium Dallas Cowboys tickets, check out the vendors and their pet-friendly wares, and meet sweet pit bull adoption candidates that could become your forever friend. Admission is a suggested donation of $10; visit the event’s Facebook page for more information.
