I have mixed feelings about Junie B. Jones, of the hugely successful series of books by the same name written by Barbara Park. On the one hand, the books are written in a way that really appeals to kids. On the other hand, part of me is really put off by the dreadful English that is trying to sound like, and therefore appeal to, kids. Regardless, it isn't me who matters--the fact is that kids really love Junie B. Jones. Even boys, who are notoriously hard to please when it comes to literature (especially when the main character is a girl), love Junie. For those in the dark, Junie is a kindergartner (there is now another series featuring her in first grade) who has kindergartner-sized adventures that are unpredictable and fun. The Dallas Children's Theater, 5938 Skillman St., presents Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business--a play featuring Junie in another wacky story that will leave the whole family laughing--Saturday through November 1. Tickets are $14 to $25. For ages 5 and up. Call 214-740-0051 or go to dct.org for tickets and showtimes.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 18. Continues through Nov. 1, 2009
