Turn On Your Heart Light
In the time between her critically lauded 2011 play Tigers Be Still and her new musical Fly By Night, co-written with Michael Mitnick and Will Connolly, playwright Kim Rosenstock has sharpened her comedic knife considerably. Fly By Night, which debuts at the Kalita Humphreys Theater (3636 Turtle Creek Blvd.), revives the idea of the musical via an actual historical event — the Northeast blackout of 1965 — playing with ideas of narrative and set design, spun around a love story that has to be told largely in the dark. You’ll come away from the performance humming several of the songs, which is always the mark of a good musical. More proof of Rosenstock’s talent with narrative: She’s written a handful of episodes of New Girl, which has slowly become one of the funniest shows on TV. Show starts at 8 p.m., and runs through May 26. Opening night Friday is sold out. Tickets cost $15 to $70. Visit attpac.org or call 214-880-0202 for more info.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: April 26. Continues through May 26, 2013
