Unleash The Animals
More than once, it's come up on local news blogs that Dallas just lacks certain pieces to complete its status as a cultural destination. Clearly, we're no New York City. We never will be. But much has been accomplished in the past few years with the buildup of the Arts District, and certainly our cultural nexus is nothing to sneeze at. If you look beyond the Arts District, there are many little gems to consider on the Dallas cultural vitae, and one of the most overlooked is the Dallas Children's Theater. Just a few miles from downtown, at 5938 Skillman St., the DCT hosts programming that'll make you sad you've been making do with Dora the Explorer DVDs. Their latest presentation, Carnival of the Animals, is an absolutely stunning puppet show from Dallas' own Kathy Burks Theatre of Puppetry Arts, which is recognized as one of the best puppet revues in the country. Set to the music of Camille Saint-Saens, kids over the age of four will be mesmerized by the combination of music, sound and vibrant color. And, unlike that last trip you took to Nokia to see the Wiggles, you won't want to shoot yourself halfway through. Enjoy a little slice of cultural bliss with your kiddo through May 23. Performances are 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $12 to $23 at dct.org.
Saturdays, Sundays, 1:30 & 4:30 p.m. Starts: May 15. Continues through May 23, 2010
