Up With People
As someone who has gotten motion sick on airplanes many times, let me put forth a theory that perhaps the motion of flight just doesn't jive well with human physiology. If we were meant to fly, we'd have wings. Yet, thanks to contrary folks like Amelia Earhart and the Wright brothers, people everywhere keep getting into planes and trying to act like birds. In fact, you can see some of them this weekend at the DFW Summer Balloon Classic & Airfest at Mid-Way Regional Airport, 131 Airport Road in Midlothian. The free family event takes place 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to noon Sunday. The "Mid-Way to the Skies" air show takes place Saturday afternoon and features precision teams racing through the sky in their T28 Trojans. If hot air balloons are more your style, check out Saturday evening's "Lite the Nite" display, where balloons on static display will light up the evening sky. At various times throughout the weekend, airplane, helicopter and tethered balloon rides will be available to the public. Event parking is $10 per vehicle.
