Vival La Mexico
Gandhi, generally considered to be a pretty smart guy, once said no culture can live if it attempts to be exclusive. Expand horizons by immersing yourself in Mexican culture for an evening this weekend. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, in partnership with the General Consul of Mexico and the Lone Star Film Society, is sharing all things Mexican at the Festival de la Risa. Spend a mellow First Friday at the Modern soaking up Latin-influenced music, munching gourmet food or watching a classic Mexican comedy film about a bum mistaken for a wealthy long-lost brother (which sounds eerily like the plot of a Judd Apatow movie). Concerts and film screenings are scheduled through Sunday. The Festival de la Risa is a part of Mexican 2010 Celebrations, marking the Bicentennial of the Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution. The festival also continues next weekend at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Admission to the gallery is $4 for students with ID, $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Museum hours vary. For more information call 817-738-9215 or visit themodern.org.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 6. Continues through Aug. 15, 2010
