What a Drag It Is
In 1994, a flamboyant little film out of Australia made serious waves in world cinema with a heartfelt and fabulous story of two drag queens and a trans woman driving a bus through the Outback. Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and a brilliant Terrance Stamp take on the roles of our heroines, bopping through desert landscapes with nothing but a bunch of ABBA tapes and a wardrobe that wowed everyone (including the Academy, which bestowed an Oscar on the film for best costume design). The Texas Theater, 231 West Jefferson Blvd., celebrates the 20th anniversary of this down-under cinematic jem, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, with a sparkling 35mm print and a sublime after party presented by CineWilde at 8 p.m. Friday. The drag-tacular event will feature a drag-themed Q&A before the show and a wild party afterward with amateur and pro drag shows that will positively curl your lashes.
