Where Music and Art Mingle
“Music and Masterpieces” is an artist one-two punch of music and visual art. Beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Dallas Museum of Art’s Horchow Auditorium, Texas-born tenor David Portillo will perform a concert in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Presented by The Dallas Opera, the concert is free to the public and will feature a variety of Latin-inspired music, including the songs of Maria Grever — Mexico’s first successful female composer — and popular 20th-century Argentinean composer Alberto Ginastera. Following the concert, museum docents will be on hand to provide free guided tours of the Dallas Museum of Art’s Mesoamerican, South American and Mexican collections. The tour spans centuries of Hispanic culture, with ancient pre-Columbian-era artifacts and modern Mexican paintings and mosaics on display. The music and art are free, but space is limited. You can sign up for this afternoon of cultural exploration on The Dallas Opera’s website, dallasopera.org/culture.
