Who Is He And Why?
The second chapter in South Korean director Chan-wook Park's vengeance trilogy, Oldboy(2003) follows a man held captive for unknown reasons and then released after 15 years, only to be thrown into a labyrinth of violence and mystery. Equipped with money, a cell phone and expensive clothes, Ho Dae-su (Min-sik Choi) receives a call from a stranger who vows to kill him unless he can uncover the stranger's identity. Battling his way through Seoul, the man must solve the puzzle and face his mysterious enemy before the end of five very brutal days. The explosive story of a man who must answer for crimes he has no memory of committing, this thriller was the winner of five South Korean Academy Awards, including Best Director and the Grand Prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Extremely violent and icky, Oldboy will appeal to fans of Park, also known as "Mr. Vengeance," as well as fans of...well, violence and ickiness. See it midnight Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Admission is $10. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com for more information.
