Who the Hell Do They Think They Are?
They say once you learn the rules, you can break ‘em. They also say there are no rules in art. So whoever they are, they sound a bit conflicted. But Dallas-based artist Robert Jessup follows whichever rules he damn well pleases in his newest set of paintings, currently on view at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (3120 McKinney Ave.). In Selections – New Work: 2013- 2014, he ventures on what he describes as a “free play of form.” If you want to know exactly what that means, he’ll be giving a gallery talk at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. I’m certain he’ll answer any questions you have about his latest paintings, or about his three-decade long career in art and academia. The talk is free, but knowledge is priceless, so they say.
