Will the Real Buddy Holly Please Stand Up?
One of the most memorable sketches in The Kids in the Hall’s repertoire had comedian Kevin McDonald skewering the gentlemanly image of Lubbock boy Buddy Holly. McDonald put on a pair of thick-frame glasses and treated everyone around him like dirt just moments before his fatal flight because, as McDonald put it, “I’m fucking Buddy Holly!” Playwright Alan Janes’ tribute to the guy who brought us “Peggy Sue” and “That’ll Be the Day” sticks a bit closer to the facts (unless Holly really did let his pet monkey Rocky fly that plane) and explores the last few years of Holly’s life in words and music. Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and continues its run through February 1 at the Artisan Center Theater’s Main Stage, 418 E. Pipeline Road in Hurst. Tickets are $16 for adults and $7 for children for weekday performances, $20 for adults and $9 for children for weekend performances. They’re available at artisanct.com. Danny Gallagher
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 2. Continues through Feb. 1, 2014
