The revolution may not be televised, but what about sketched, painted or printed intaglio? The just-opened Smoke and Mirrors Gallery and Info Shop hosts the Art as a Weapon exhibition, a show that features artists whose work is intended to be just that, a political weapon to inspire public action and give form to their disparate rebel yells. Inspired by the Germany's Cologne Progressives, the artists attempt to merge art and social issues while demonstrating that propaganda and politically powerful art does not originate exclusively from the people in power any longer. Works on display range from mixed media and sculpture to live art and music. This one-night-only event takes place Saturday, October 15, at Smoke and Mirrors Gallery, 1920 N. Haskell Ave. Call 214-370-9242 for more information.
Sat., Oct. 15, 4 p.m.-midnight, 2011
