Ziggy Jr. In Space

You had to know that David Bowie's son was not going to be an accountant. It doesn't make sense that a child brought up in the swinging '70s by a free-wheeling, cross-dressing dude who took on new personas as a matter of course would let all that inspiration go to waste as a paper-pusher. Nope--instead, Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones harnessed all that Ziggy Stardust-era stimulation and put it to perfect use as a film director (and co-writer) on the Sundance stunner, Moon. The movie is a visual tribute to early '70s sci-fi (with a killer poster) and features a stellar cast, including the always amazing Sam Rockwell. Rockwell's character is an astronaut alone on the moon, sent to mine a crucial new energy source and kept company by his trusty robot. The film has been critically hailed as not only a genre masterpiece, but also an examination of humanity, alienation and Orwellian themes of the Big Brother variety. We'll just take that to mean that Jones has done his daddy proud. Moon is playing at the Modern, 3200 Darnell St. in Fort Worth, as part of the Magnolia at the Modern series 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8.50.
