Revolution is a dodgy subject. It can serve the freedom of society and thought or the re-establishment of terror and fringe fanaticism. Whether old guard or new order, revolution is exciting, interesting and sexy. And it's essential to our progression--or at least necessary in terms of civilized maintenance. Club Che (yes, it's named after that Che), the new nightclub/lounge/restaurant opening tonight, is serving up its own brand of uprising with plates of Cuban BLTs and avocado salads, along with 10,000 square feet of Caribbean atmosphere and Latin dance music. Che is all about "revolution." It's an adjective peppered throughout the venue's press release, describing anything from rum to Ibiza techno. All right, so this isn't exactly a Bastille-storming strike. It doesn't even rival the anger and passion of a "Release Who's the Boss? on DVD!" online petition. This is more like another elitist trend den where dudes in button-down shirts drink Red Stripe and ogle girls with tattoos on the smalls of their backs. The coolest thing about most water recreation is the temperature of the water. So how can a hipster beat the heat without being exposed to water shoes and guaranteed sunburns (can't lose that vampire-like pallor!)? Water fun at an art gallery, of course. Conduit Gallery hosts its version of Wet and Wild with wading pools, water balloons and water guns. Rest assured that the only water shoes there will be worn ironically. Christmas in July. Wouldn't that be great? Nice, cold breezes instead of the insanely hot and humid air. A good reason to eat platefuls of tasty food without feeling too guilty. And sales--ah, the wonderful Christmas sales. Looks like we'd better head on over to Gerald Peters Gallery, 2913 Fairmount St., in Uptown. OK, so the gallery can't provide the breeze--unless, of course, you stand directly in front of an air-conditioning vent. And an excuse to purge? Hardly. The gallery isn't holding a reception for its "first ever" Christmas in July event, but at least we get to reap the benefits of a great Christmas sale. Works by a number of gallery artists including Sharon Kopriva, Dan Rizzie and Julie Speed will be available for purchase at prices marked below retail value. The gallery's sale could prove fruitful for art and Christmas savings lovers alike. Christmas in July is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and runs through September 3.
