The suits invented the charity golf tournament, not the jocks. And why wouldn't they? It's the perfect ploy to play all day and get paid for it. The company pays while you play, and any self-respecting golf tournament will have the beer iced up and flowing by the time you get to the ninth green. Polish up your woods, suck up to your boss and pencil in May 30 for the Organization of Chinese Americans-Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter's first charity golf event celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Proceeds from the event will fund educational scholarships for local high school students. Individual player slots as well as foursome team slots are available, and registration is $80 per person. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., with a 12:30 p.m. start time for the "scramble" format. Call Richard Chang of OCA-DFW at 972-577-6538 to sign up and get directions. --Annabelle Massey Helber

Puss in Cleats
We at Night & Day find a number of odd things while sifting through weekly events, and many of these make us hit our heads while mumbling a confused "whooda-huh?" Indeed, last month's discovery of Eskimos in Frisco seemed amazing enough, but this week's unexpected find wins out. There's a baseball team that calls Fort Worth home. Even weirder, these so-called "Cats" have been kicking dust off the farm-league diamond since 1888. After 40 years of downtime, the team and its home field were re-established last year as members of the Central Baseball League, so if you need a fun diversion from Eskimo hunting, take the family to the Cats' latest home stretch June 2 through June 4. Tickets are $4 to $36. LaGrave Field, 301 N.E. Sixth St., Fort Worth. Call 817-226-2287. --Sam Machkovech

Dog Day Afternoon
Every dog deserves its day, right? And Saturday's Mutt Strut is about as good as it gets. Beginning at 5 p.m. at Unity Park, Briarhill Boulevard and FM 407, a 2K human and pet walk along The Trails of Highland Shores will give you and Fido a chance to show your stuff. For a $20 registration fee and proof of a current rabies vaccination, you and your special mutt can compete for trophies in a variety of pre-Strut contests ranging from an owner and pet look-alike competition to best trick. You get a free T-shirt; your dog gets a bandanna or a Frisbee. And, co-sponsored by the Dallas Sidekicks and the Highland Shores Owners Association, it all benefits the Animal Rescue League. Call 972-420-0641 or click on to www.arltexas.org. --Carlton Stowers
