We at Night & Day find a number of odd things while sifting through weekly events, and many of these make us hit our heads while mumbling a confused "whooda-huh?" Indeed, last month's discovery of Eskimos in Frisco seemed amazing enough, but this week's unexpected find wins out. There's a baseball team that calls Fort Worth home. Even weirder, these so-called "Cats" have been kicking dust off the farm-league diamond since 1888. After 40 years of downtime, the team and its home field were re-established last year as members of the Central Baseball League, so if you need a fun diversion from Eskimo hunting, take the family to the Cats' latest home stretch June 2 through June 4. Dog Day Afternoon
Every dog deserves its day, right? And Saturday's Mutt Strut is about as good as it gets. Beginning at 5 p.m. at Unity Park, Briarhill Boulevard and FM 407, a 2K human and pet walk along The Trails of Highland Shores will give you and Fido a chance to show your stuff. For a $20 registration fee and proof of a current rabies vaccination, you and your special mutt can compete for trophies in a variety of pre-Strut contests ranging from an owner and pet look-alike competition to best trick.
