Despite the fact that he brought upon our fair city what was easily its darkest moment, Lee Harvey Oswald continues to be the subject of much fascination for Dallasites. One of our finest watering holes bears his infamous name. And while the great Homer Henderson's "Lee Harvey Was a Friend of Mine" never ascended the pop charts, its clever chorus--"Lee Harvey was a friend of mine/He used to take me fishing all the time/He used to throw the ball to me when I was just a kid/They say he shot the president but I don't think he did"--nevertheless ingrained itself in the minds of those that heard it for years after. Local playwright Bill Fountain is the latest artist to explore the subject of Lee Harvey, focusing on his brief defection to the Soviet Union in his new play, Crushing Grain.
