On Contemporary Dance Fort Worth's website, the dance company describes its work as "NOT the ballet," and sums it all up with a slogan fit for a Nike commercial: "New music. No swans. No limits." Clearly, if you're to learn one thing from this message, it's that contemporary dance is not, never has been, and never will be anything like ballet. Modern dancers focus more on expressing emotion than following a strict technical code, and they sure as hell don't wear shoes. If this sounds like your kind of party, check out the Ninth Annual Barefoot Brigade Dance Festival Saturday and Sunday at the Dallas Museum of Art's Horchow Auditorium, 1717 N. Harwood St. Admission is free, and the festival will feature performances by members of the Barefoot Brigade, a local coalition of modern dance professionals and guests. For more information, visit cdfw.org or barefootbrigadedance.org.
