Some people say they wish their lives were more like musicals. Well, those people should be happy because it seems like everything's a musical these days. Ten years ago, who would have guessed that Monty Python would tackle Broadway as Spamalot, or that the cast of Evil Dead would sing a little ditty while spraying audiences with fake blood? Some movies still seem wanting for some tunes, though. Take Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, for example. What's the one thing Steve Martin doesn't do enough of in the film? He cons his fair share of marks, endures a vicious beating from Michael Caine and eats with a cork on his fork, but he certainly doesn't do enough singing. This error on the part of the filmmakers is remedied in the musical version of the con-man story, which is being performed by the Uptown Players at Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd, Friday through May 16. Shows are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, with one bonus performance at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 13. Tickets are $30 to $40. Call 214-219-2718 or visit uptownplayers.org.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Thu., May 13, 8 p.m. Starts: April 23. Continues through May 16, 2010
