Oklahomaisn't just a state; it's the name of a musical that revolutionized musicals after its Broadway premiere in 1943. The story's pretty simple--Curly the cowboy loves Laurey, and she loves him, but goes to the dance with sinister hired hand Jud instead. It all turns out pretty well in the end, with a wedding and a song--you know, "Oklahoma"--about how the Indian Territory they're living in will soon be a brand new state. Yes, some say it's a little hokey. Then again, some people say this is the best musical ever written and they--whoever they are--might just be right. The music's great, the lines are funny and there's enough real stuff beneath it all to make it worth the while. Check out Oklahoma! Thursdays through Tuesdays through June 26 at Artisan Center Theater, 418 E. Pipeline Road in Hurst. Tickets are $9 to $16. Call 817-284-1200 or visit artisanct.com.
