Over the years, lavish productions have come and gone, lighting up Broadway for the duration of their run with elaborate costumes and sets. But 30 years ago, a modest musical took the Theatre District by storm with its bare stage and simple cast of 17 dancers. A Chorus Line explores the stories of the faceless chorus dancers that serve as background in Broadway plays, and it stands as one of the longest-running Broadway musicals of all time. Filmmakers James D. Stern and Adam Del Deo bring the history of this groundbreaking musical to light in their new documentary Every Little Step. The film chronicles the run of A Chorus Line from its debut 30 years ago to its latest revival last year. It features behind-the-scenes and performance footage spanning the play's three decades in production, and interviews with original cast members and Broadway legends about the impact of this very human story. Every Little Step plays this Friday through Sunday as part of Magnolia at the Modern (3200 Darnell St. in Fort Worth), an ongoing series featuring critically acclaimed films. Tickets are $8.50 or $6.50 for Modern members. Advance sales begin two hours before each show. For more information, visit themodern.org/magnolia.html.
