The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra makes a musical Pangaea, uniting polar opposites, in its upcoming West Side Story: Symphonic Dances. It's this unlikely melting pot concept that drew us to Bernstein's Broadway hit in the first place: Shakespeare meets alleyways and switchblades. Gangsters meet lyrical dancing. Vocal dubbing meets musical theater. Star-crossed as it may seem, the musical thrives. The FWSO brings the score to life in West Side Story: Symphonic Dances, bookending the performance with Paganini and Danzas fantasticas by Turina. Experience it at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Bass Hall, Fourth and Calhoun Streets in Fort Worth. Visit fwsymphony.org for tickets.
