Continuing its 2008-2009 "Discover Series," WaterTower Theatre presents the regional premiere of Based on a Totally True Story by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. As comic book writer Ethan Keene prepares for a screen adaptation of his work, his behind-the-scenes life runs amok--a common situation of artists faced with fame and glory. The art can often outshine the artist, and one's fiction is often the gilded facade of a comparatively mundane reality. For every superhero, there's a man behind the mask. For every literary masterpiece, there's a lone typist struggling to balance his art with his own reality. As Keene plows toward his Hollywood premiere, he faces his father's marital crisis, his boyfriend's attention issues and a producer demanding rewrites. Will his fictional and nonfiction dramas find happy endings before the credits roll? WaterTower's five-person cast, directed by James Paul Lemons, takes us along Keene's multifaceted caped crusade. Based on a Totally True Story runs Thursday through May 3. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $20 to $25. Recommended for mature audiences. Call the box office at 972-450-6233 or visit watertowertheatre.org for tickets and more information.
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: April 16. Continues through May 3, 2009
