No offense, IwannaBeFamous2007, but we kinda doubt that you were what Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II had in mind when they wrote their 1950s musical version of the fairy tale Cinderella. Don't get us wrong. Your YouTube video of yourself singing Cinderella's dreamy solo "In My Own Little Corner" is very, very entertaining, and big props to you for your commitment to emoting the lyrics as you sit before your computer's webcam. But you're no Julie Andrews—unless Julie Andrews was a Hispanic-looking, crew-cutted teenage boy contemplating off-key the possibility of being "a young Egyptian princess or a milkmaid...the greatest prima donna in Milan." IwannaBeFamous2007 is just one of scores of young people who have posted videos of themselves singing songs from the musical, which has been filmed in various versions since its premiere—including a 1997 TV movie starring Whitney Houston as the fairy godmother. (She could turn a pumpkin into a carriage but couldn't do shit with Bobby Brown.) Here's hoping the performers at Artisan Center Theater in Hurst fare a little better with the vocals as the theater presents Cinderella at 7:30 p.m. nightly through December 23, with additional 3 p.m. matinees on Saturdays.
