It's hard to imagine a time when a band like Huey Lewis and the News could dominate pop charts and MTV alongside a balding Phil Collins. Man, things sure have changed. And whether you think they've changed for the better or worst will determine your interest in seeing the News this week. We're totally riding the fence on this. We understand the complaints that Lewis, even in the early '80s, kinda looked like somebody's dad instead of a "rock star." How even then, the band's poppy, blues-rock doo-wop amalgam appealed to adult, white-collar audiences (it probably still does). But we're also secure enough to admit that "I Want a New Drug" is a damn enjoyable song, and lately we've had nostalgia for the days when a saxophone could still be an important part of a rock band. Regardless, taking advantage of their inclusion on the Pineapple Express soundtrack, they're here to play, and it's up to you whether you're a Sports fan or not. Catch them 8 p.m. Thursday at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Tickets are $45 to $95. Visit dallassymphony.com for more information.
