I never took an art class after middle school, and looking back I'm super bummed about it—it would have been nice to graduate from pasta art and magazine collages into something a little more interesting, like say, sculpture or photography. I suppose I could still take classes at Brookhaven, UTA or Sofia Art Academy, though, where accomplished artists do double duty as members of the faculty. If you don't buy into what I'm laying down here, check out Academia: Pushing the Boundary, a new show of local faculty art curated by UTA Associate Professor Benito Huerta and including works by Kenda North, Narcel Reedus, Nicholas Wood, David Newman, Igor and Sofia Khunteyev and many others. The exhibit hangs through July 11 at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, 3120 McKinney Ave. Call 214-953-1212 or visit the-mac.org.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 27. Continues through July 11, 2008
