When the Bush administration and much of the rest of the world was still ignoring the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, Nicholas Kristof was avidly reporting about the horrors of the Janjaweed, the Arab, government-sponsored death squads that have killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions. Even when the brutal reports seemed to spur few countries to action, the New York Times op-ed writer refused to stop writing columns about the beleaguered region. Kristof, who has lived on four continents and traveled to 120 countries, will speak about his views on Africa noon Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Dallas, 300 Reunion Blvd., as part of the World Affairs Council of DFW speakers' series. Tickets are $45 for WAC members and $60 for non-members. Visit dfwworld.org for more information.
