"Give peace a chance." John Lennon preached this gentle message from a famous white bed in '69 back while our nation danced the death "tango" in Vietnam. You know how that one turned out. Troops pulled out early; Vietnam took 30 years finding its way into the world economyâ¦after cleaning up a bit. Flash forward to our current "snake dance" in the Middle East. On March 1 Maya Angelou and Dallas' Hope for Peace & Justice (H4PJ) movement will inaugurate the world-wide Song of Peace campaign observing March 18, the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Dr. Angelou will be keynote speaker at the H4PJ's "Voices of Peace" celebration, along with a huge collaboration of the best voices in town: The Women's Chorus of Dallas, the Turtle Creek Chorale, the male chorus from First Baptist Hamilton Park, One Achord, The Cathedral of Hope Sanctuary Choir and MosaicSong. Members of the Dallas and New Texas Symphony Orchestras will keep everyone on key, joined by the biggest pipes in town—the Lay Family Organ. Give me a Hallelujah! and put down the M-16. I'll give this a 100 percent chance of being heard in Iraq if you come to the Meyerson Symphony Hall at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $30 to $100.
