The name Hip Pocket more than covers it. The west Fort Worth theater group has been reaching around and pulling it out for a popular 31 seasons now. But we're not just talking about a super-sized black hole of endless talent and creative energy—they're hip in the not-connected-to-your-ass sense too. Take their new play, for instance. The outdoor theater venue has been soaked by Mother Nature most of the summer season, so HPT founder Johnny Simons got hip and wrote her into his play, The Doggies and the Kitty. Now if it rains cats and dogs, he scores low-wage additional cast members with non-union contracts. Genius! The winsome plot unfolds the struggle between an eccentric widower (I see a house of fur here) and his successful entrepreneurial son. I'll bet on cold noses over cold hearts anytime. The show runs Friday through September 23. Call 817-246-9775 or visit hippocket.org.
Fridays-Sundays, 8:15 p.m. Starts: Aug. 31. Continues through Sept. 23, 2007
