According to a friend of mine, it's not easy being a divo. And no, that's not a typo. A divo is a male diva. Let me help you out. Madonna, diva. Elton John, divo. Oprah, diva. Little Richard, divo. Barbra Streisand, diva. Richard Simmons, divo. Being a diva is hard enough, but being a divo takes a special kind. But if anyone can pull it off, there's no doubt Dallas' Uptown Players can. The theater group that brought you Southern Baptist Sissies is back with a bang. In Broadway Our Way: Divas Unleashed, the Uptown Players deliver an evening of Broadway music with a twist...the divos perform your favorite Broadway numbers.

The Uptown Players have entertained Dallas audiences since 2001, when they began their very first season in true divo fashion with four productions (running nine performances each) over a three-week period. Uptown Players has created such productions as When Pigs Fly and The Last Session in 2002, Down South and Kiss of the Spider Woman in 2003, The Life and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party in 2004 and A Man Of No Importance and Mambo Italiano in 2005.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 5. Continues through Jan. 15
