There's just not enough money to get me to go teach a bunch of third-graders. The girls whine, the boys smell like puppies, and teacher-parent conferences have got to be the closest thing to hell this side of Barney Live! When mechanical engineer John Pearson was laid off, he took a teaching job—third-grade math and science. In his novel, Learn Me Good, he tells the story of a year in the life of a new teacher, during which he finds that the maturity level of his corporate colleagues is not much different from that of his third-graders. John Pearson will sign copies of his book 2 p.m. Saturday at Borders bookstore, 5500 Greenville Ave. Call 214-739-1166.
Sat., Aug. 26, 2 p.m.
