On his AllMusic Web page, Randy Travis is compared to the Beatles. Seriously. Something about how his 1986 album Storms of Life marked a "generational shift" in country music. I'm not entirely sure how an album with a title that sounds like a Lifetime Movie about menopausal sisters could possibly mark a generational shift, or how someone who has appeared in both Touched by an Angel and Walker: Texas Ranger could be on the cutting edge of anything. His signature song "Forever and Ever" is a sweet and simple ditty, with a couplet Britney Spears would love: "But honey, I don't care, I'm not in love with your hair...And if it all fell out, well, I'd love you anyway." That ain't exactly McCartneyesque. Of course, neither was "Freedom." Still, when it comes to hit country, you can do a lot worse than Randy Travis. John Michael Montgomery could be in town. Randy Travis will be singing "Forever' Saturday at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth. Tickets are $15 and $35. Call 817-624-7117 or visit billybobstexas.com.
